Introduce Yourself

Hi I’m Emma. I set up Watch the Sunrise when I qualified as a Meditation Teacher with the British School of Meditation. Meditation has benefitted me in so many ways with my health and wellbeing, so I want to share it with as many people as possible!

I first learnt meditation from a second-hand book I picked up having exhausted all other routes to solve my insomnia and jaw grinding issues. Over the years it has helped me with the toughest times in my life and gradually became a tool I use each and every day to reduce anxiety and mind chatter, increase calm and relaxation, feel more connected to my mind and body and to feel more resilient with my emotions and outlook.

More recently I completed a professional development session on Meditation for Menopause which looked in detail at the science behind how it can help with the most common (and life altering) symptoms and offer a free, non-medical support to navigate through peri to post menopause and beyond. I knew I needed to tell women about this, and Tina kindly invited me to talk to the lovely Gorleston Menopause Mayhem Group.

If you’re intrigued about how meditation can positively affect you physiologically and psychologically to alleviate menopause symptoms, you can read my blog post about it here: https://watchthesunrise.co.uk/journal/meditation-for-menopause

You can also explore my current classes and guided meditation audio downloads on my website below or get in touch with me to chat about how meditation could benefit you.

Kirsty Wiseman from KnowU Wellbeing

🌿Many of you will already know Kirsty… but you may not know what she does now! 🌿

Kirsty has been part of our Gorleston Menopause Mayhem & Women’s Health community for almost five years, regularly contributing to conversations, offering support and signposting members to local services, groups and professionals who may be able to help.

Some of you may even have had your NHS Health Check with Kirsty through her previous role, whether in a community venue or through her outreach work across Norfolk. Others may remember being disappointed when they found they weren’t eligible.

Since then, Kirsty has launched KnowU Wellbeing. We were chatting today and realised that whilst lots of people know Kirsty, many still aren’t quite sure what KnowU is or how it differs from an NHS Health Check.

So I thought it was about time she introduced herself properly…

☕ “Are you normal?”

It’s a question I’ve been asked hundreds, if not thousands, of times over the years…

Thank you, Tina, for the lovely introduction and for inviting me to share a little more about KnowU Wellbeing.

Many of you will know me from my previous role delivering NHS Health Checks and supporting people across Norfolk through community events and outreach.

I absolutely loved that role. It gave me the privilege of meeting thousands of people and having conversations that often went far beyond blood pressure and cholesterol.

Those conversations inspired KnowU.

Because I realised health isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Some people weren’t eligible for an NHS Health Check. Others wanted more time, more regular support or simply somewhere they could ask questions without feeling rushed or judged.

So I asked myself…

What if health started with understanding the person, not just measuring them?

That’s why I created KnowU Wellbeing.

One of the questions I’ve heard hundreds of times over the years is…

“Is that normal?”

Whether it’s menopause, tiredness, brain fog, stress, blood pressure, cholesterol or simply not feeling like yourself.

The truth is, whilst many health measures have healthy ranges, there isn’t one version of normal. We all have different genetics, lifestyles, experiences and priorities.

Rather than comparing yourself with somebody else’s normal, I’m much more interested in helping you understand your normal.

Sometimes that starts with a blood pressure check.

Sometimes it’s cholesterol or diabetes risk.

Sometimes it’s simply sitting down over a coffee and talking about what’s been going on.

Because numbers only ever tell part of the story.

KnowU doesn’t replace your GP or NHS services. It complements them by giving you the time and space to understand your health, ask questions and make informed choices that feel right for you.

As KnowU continues to grow, so do the ways we can understand our health. Alongside wellbeing check-ins, cholesterol profiling and diabetes risk testing, from August I’ll also be offering the opportunity to look a little deeper. By exploring things like inflammation, cellular health, gut health and nutritional balance, we can begin to build an even more complete picture of what’s happening beneath the surface.

Everything I do comes back to one simple belief:

It’s not about what’s wrong with you… it’s about what’s going on for you.

My hope is that everyone I meet leaves feeling a little more informed, a little more empowered and a little more confident about their own health.

If you see me at one of Tina’s groups or out and about in the community, please do come and say hello. Or if there’s something you’ve been wondering about, pop me a message. There really is no such thing as a silly question, and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll always do my best to point you in the direction of someone who does.

I’m looking forward to getting to know many more of you over the coming months.

After all… your wellbeing starts with knowing you. 🌿
